Kevley MirrIR Low-E Microscope Slides

Patented infrared-reflective microscope slides designed to provide high-contrast, artifact-free transflectance spectra for FTIR micro-spectroscopy

Product Overview

Kevley MirrIR Low-E Microscope Slides are the industry standard for researchers performing FTIR micro-spectroscopy on biological tissues, forensic trace evidence, and polymer films. These specialized slides feature a multi-layer metallic coating, utilizing two layers of high-purity silver, that reflects over 95% of mid-infrared radiation. This allows for "transflectance" measurements, where the IR beam passes through the sample, reflects off the slide surface, and passes through the sample a second time, effectively doubling the pathlength and enhancing sensitivity.Unlike standard glass or plastic substrates, MirrIR slides exhibit no interfering absorption bands across the critical fingerprint region (4000 to 400 cm⁻¹). This eliminates the need for complex mathematical corrections or background subtractions that can introduce spectral artifacts. The slides are visibly transparent, enabling effortless sample targeting under standard visible light microscopy before switching to IR mode. Designed for durability, the low-e coating is chemically resistant to common organic solvents and remains thermally stable at temperatures up to 400°C

Key Features

  • High IR Reflectivity: Reflects >95% of Mid-IR radiation for superior signal-to-noise ratios.
  • Artifact-Free Background: Zero interfering absorptions from 4000 to 400 cm⁻¹.
  • Visible Transparency: Allows for clear optical observation and precise sample localization.
  • Chemical & Thermal Stability: Resists organic solvents and withstands heating up to 400°C
  • Enhanced Sensitivity: "Double-pass" transflectance geometry increases effective pathlength.
