Definitive Control for Polymer Spectroscopy
The Specac Atlas™ Constant Thickness Film Maker is the ultimate solution for laboratories requiring absolute precision in polymer film preparation. Designed to integrate with Specac’s Atlas™ Series hydraulic presses, this accessory eliminates the pathlength variability often found in manual melt-pressing. By employing high-tolerance spacing rings, researchers can hot-press thermoplastics and polymer blends into films of exact, predetermined thicknesses. This mechanical precision ensures that every sample—whether for routine quality control or complex material characterization—delivers consistent spectral intensity, essential for accurate quantitative calculation of additives and crystalline structures.
High-Performance Thermal Processing
Catering to a broad spectrum of industrial materials, the system is available in two configurations: a standard model operating up to 300°C (requiring Atlas™ Heated Platens) and a specialized High-Temperature variant capable of reaching 400°C for engineering polymers like PEEK. Both systems produce large 29 mm diameter films, providing a generous sampling area for transmission analysis. The accessory features integrated water-cooling channels to rapidly return samples to ambient temperature, locking in the material's structural state and significantly reducing cycle times compared to conventional oven-based methods.
Key Features
- Precision Pathlength: Interchangeable spacing rings (15, 25, 50, 100, 250, & 500 µm) guarantee exact film thickness for reliable quantitative data.
- Wide Temperature Range: Standard configuration supports up to 300°C; High-Temperature model extends capabilities to 400°C.
- Large Sample Area: Creates 29 mm diameter films, suitable for standard sample holders and maximizing beam throughput.
- Rapid Cooling: Built-in water cooling facilitates fast solidification (approx. 1 L/min flow), shortening preparation time to 20–30 minutes.
- High-Purity Films: Utilizes non-stick aluminum foil discs to ensure films remain contaminant-free and optically clear.
