Harrick Praying Mantis™ Low Temperature Reaction Chamber

A high-performance environmental cell designed for in-situ diffuse reflectance (DRIFTS) studies of catalysts and powders at cryogenic temperatures down to -150°C.

Product Overview

The Harrick Praying Mantis™ Low Temperature Reaction Chamber is a specialized environmental workstation engineered for the most demanding in-situ and operando surface analysis. Designed to integrate seamlessly with the Praying Mantis™ DRIFTS optical accessory, this chamber enables researchers to characterize high-surface-area materials, such as catalysts and adsorbents, under precisely controlled thermal and atmospheric conditions. It is an essential tool for investigating reaction intermediates, adsorption mechanisms, and photochemical processes that occur at sub-ambient temperatures.Constructed from chemically resistant 316 stainless steel, the chamber features a unique dual-purpose thermal management system. For low-temperature operation, the unit utilizes liquid nitrogen cooling to reach temperatures as low as -150°C, while an integrated low-voltage cartridge heater allows for controlled ramping up to 600°C. To ensure operational safety and experimental stability, the outer housing is equipped with water-cooling conduits that prevent thermal transfer to the spectrometer optics and seals during high-heat or extreme-cold cycles. The chamber’s vacuum-tight design supports studies from ultra-high vacuum (10^-6 torr) to atmospheric pressure (133 kPa). Its three-port gas management system provides the flexibility to evacuate the cell or introduce precise reactant gas mixtures. Available with a variety of window materials, including KBr and ZnSe for Mid-IR or UV-grade SiO₂ for UV-Vis-NIR, this reaction chamber provides the environmental versatility required for advanced molecular discovery in catalysis and material science.
