Product Overview
The Art Photonics ATR Loop Probe offers a unique geometry for Mid-IR spectroscopy. Instead of a discrete crystal tip, the sensing element is a loop formed by the infrared-transmitting fiber itself. The Polycrystalline Infrared (PIR) fiber is tapered or thinned at the loop to enhance the evanescent wave interaction, providing a high sensitivity-to-volume ratio. This makes it an exceptional tool for analyzing microliter drops or for "touch" sampling of soft surfaces.Because the loop is flexible, it can be manipulated into tight spaces or used for non-destructive surface testing of biological tissues, polymers, and delicate coatings. The loop probe is a cost-effective alternative to diamond-tipped probes for applications involving non-abrasive liquids and soft solids. It is widely used in biomedical research for skin analysis and in food science for the characterization of viscous oils and fats
Key Features
- Flexible Sensing: Fiber loop can conform to irregular surfaces.
- Micro-Sampling: Ideal for analysis of very small droplets (< 10 µL).
- Broad Mid-IR Range: Operates effectively from 4 µm to 18 µm.
- Low Cost: Economical solution for routine laboratory qualitative analysis
- Enhanced Sensitivity: Evanescent field is maximized by fiber tapering.
